SBWFA Chairman Bobby Kennedy this evening announced with great disappointment that the Welfare select friendly with Rothes FC on 8 July has had to be cancelled.

The reason for this is twofold: the Highland League’s start date has been brought forward to Sat 18 July this year, and when we looked more closely at our own fixtures there was no way we could ask a select team to play Rothes on Wed 8 July as some players would be involved in the Stuart Cup Final the following night.

This would also have meant them then playing Leagues games on the Tuesday then having a game the very next night against the Highland League outfit – not to mention another cup game two days later on the Friday.

Whilst bitterly disappointed this has fallen through, Bobby is still grateful to everyone who contacted him to make themselves available for the game.

Hopefully it can be arranged at another more suitable time for all.
